The "Smooth" and "Groove" differentiators

At first glance, the terms "Smooth" and "Groove" might seem cryptic, but they refer to distinct design features, particularly evident in the front bumper of the vehicles.

- "Groove" starts from 2005 to 2015, and it features a large horizontal groove along the front bumper. (Both Thai and Spain Built)

- Conversely, "Smooth" Starts from 2011 to 2015, and it has a Smooth front bumper devoid of such grooves, hence the namesake. (Spain Built Only)

 Why the distinction matters:

 The distinction between "Smooth" and "Groove" builds might seem trivial to the uninitiated, but it holds significant implications, especially in aftermarket parts or repairs.

 - Brackets required for various components can differ due to chassis discrepancies between the Thai and Spain builds.

 - Identifying the correct build type becomes crucial to ensure compatibility and proper fitment of replacement parts.

- The easiest method to discern between the two builds is by inspecting the front bumper, making it a quick and reliable  identifier for enthusiasts and mechanics alike.

Navigating exceptions:

While it's generally true that Spanish builds tend to be "Smooth" and Thai builds tend to be "Groove," there are exceptions to this rule. Factors such as production variations or model-specific changes can lead to deviations from the standard. 

- Hence, relying solely on the country of origin might not always guarantee the correct identification.

- Instead, paying close attention to the specific design cues, especially the presence or absence of the characteristic groove on the front bumper, ensures accurate identification.

- The STX 550 does have this build variation, instead sharing its bar with the Smooth bumper D40s.
